Bryson City, North Carolina

There's an adventure around every bend in North Carolina, and, whether it’s whitewater rafting, stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking, the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) in Bryson City offers a variety of water adventures on some of the South’s best rivers. Whitewater rafting abounds on nearby rivers, like the Chattooga, where you and a group can choose your skill level and take on the flowing river waters. The NOC is the only company on the Chattooga River with an entire fleet of self-bailing rafts, so be ready to get wet! Or, you might choose to tackle the French Broad, the world's third oldest river, through the fun, low-key Class II and III rapids or a full-day trip on those and the challenging Class IV Frank Bell’s Rapid. Whichever option you choose, it’ll be a water ride you won’t soon forget! If you're looking to take on the rivers on your own, the Paddling School teaches participants of all skill levels, and this is a great way to soak in the scenic beauty. If you’d rather enjoy the landscape over 500 feet above the Nantahala River, the NOC offers five aerial and zipline adventures. If that doesn’t satisfy the thrill-seeker in you, you can test your limits and teamwork on take on the multi-level challenge ropes course complete with a 1,000-foot zipline, a climbing wall and a giant swing.
