Shelbyville and neighboring Wartrace initiate you to Tennessee Walking Horse Country. In Wartrace, tour the Tennessee Walking Horse National Museum; in Shelbyville, witness the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, 10 days of competition among some 2,000 horses to determine the breed’s World Grand Champion. The festival takes place annually just prior to Labor Day.
Retire to Shelbyville’s Clearview Horse Farm. Designed to accommodate riders with their horses, it’s equally accommodating for guests without. Relax in a rustic room or suite, some named for the 14 breeds that live on the farm; then sign up for a trail ride. All ages and experience levels are welcome – rides begin with instruction. Afterward, you’ll set out on a guided jaunt across the farm’s 150 acres. You can even choose to mount a Tennessee Walking Horse.
