Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is a great example of the New South, a cultural melting pot of new restaurants, emerging chefs and diverse shopping districts. The city’s shopping malls make almost any world-famous shopping destination pale in comparison. It’s a dynamic city with an upcoming artistic scene that will make your stay the perfect blend between nature and big city.

A Breath-taking Shopping Experience

The shopping in Buckhead is legendary! No other word can describe the experience you’ll have here. As you enter these huge indoor and outdoor shopping malls, you will feel like you’re entering a real amusement park. The most beautiful shops are there: discount retailers, specialty boutiques and even vintage stores. At Phipps Plaza, you will find all the trends from Armani, Versace, Jimmy Choo and many more. At Lenox Square Mall, you will find more than 200 boutiques, including Apple, Bulgari and Louis Vuitton.

Atlanta is a city spread out across several districts, but don’t worry – you can easily get from place to place for an uninterrupted shop-fest. Every neighbourhood has a different atmosphere. To continue my shopping day, I headed to Little Five Points, a more bohemian and hip neighbourhood in the Eastern part of Atlanta – a real underground culture!

Chefs and the Emerging Culinary Scene

Atlanta is also famous for its thriving local restaurant culture. In the Westside Provisions District, the former meat packing district, old meat factories have been transformed into amazing restaurants. One is Bacchanalia, where chefs Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison prepare light fare with strong flavours. It is one of the top 20 restaurants in the country.

Among all these beautiful restaurants, Bistro Niko in Buckhead is one of my favourites. Its menu features fabulous steak tartar, endive salad and absolutely wonderful French brasserie-style food.

Atlanta’s Diverse Activities

Two of the most beautiful parks of the city are the Centennial Olympic Park and Piedmont Park. Both offer magnificent skyline views of Atlanta and so many aspects of the city to discover. Centennial Olympic Park is the place to watch outdoor concerts, enjoy the stunning Fountain of Rings, and catch live performances – all the best events you can imagine are held in this vibrant green heart of the city.

If this is not enough, head to Piedmont Park, the city’s biggest park, which is always hosting some exciting events. Thanks to the Atlanta Beltline which makes all the connections with the park and the city easy and fun, there is no excuse to not hop on the bandwagon.

Atlanta is the perfect mix between a cosmopolitan big city and a charming Southern town. A long weekend in Atlanta is just what you need to reinvigorate your soul.
