Texarkana, Arkansas

As its name hints, Texarkana imparts flavors of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas, though it technically belongs to Arkansas and Texas only—walk the divide along State Line Avenue to behold the only post office that sits in two states (bring your camera to capture its Texas granite/Arkansas limestone construction).

Elsewhere in town, look for the mural celebrating acclaimed ragtime composer and Texarkana native Scott Joplin; research the legend of the Ace of Clubs House, an 1885 Italianate Victorian home built in the shape of a club after it was financed by a winning poker hand (or was it?); and see a show at downtown’s restored Perot Theatre.
